My research falls within the field of comparative politics, at the intersection with sociology, anthropology and geography.
My research and teaching activities focus on urban politics and the dynamics of violence and informality. In particular, my recent work shows that structural and informal hierarchies of power continue to define many so-called democratic practices in state-society relations.
Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Concordia University
My current research focuses on 2 main areas
- Links between formal, informal and illegal spheres in the economic, political and social organization of low-income communities in Latin America and the Caribbean
- Resistance and resilience to chronic urban violence in informal work and housing environments (Brazil, Colombia, Jamaica).
