Dan Furukawa Marques

dan.furukawa-marques@soc.ulaval.ca

Holder of a PH.D. in political thought from the University of Ottawa, I hold the Alban D'Amours Chair in Educational Leadership and the Sociology of Cooperation (CLEASC). I am also a research associate at the Centre d'études des mouvements sociaux (CEMS) at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris.

Inspired by political phenomenology, my recent work focuses on the construction of cooperative communities and political subjectivities, rooted in collective work, participatory democracy and the solidarity economy. My analyses are based on an ethnographic survey of an agricultural production cooperative belonging to the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) in Brazil.

In addition to my courses and seminars at Université Laval, I have taught courses on political and social philosophy, globalization, citizenship and development, the political and social context of Latin America, and Quebec society and its ideologies.

Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Université Laval

My new research projects explore the links between the social/solidarity-based economy and the commons in concrete experiments in Quebec and Barcelona.
